Ultra HD manufacturers are working on releasing 40-inch panels, which are expected to reach markets by the end of 2013, according to Taiwan’s DigiTimes.

“Makers such as Innolux are expected to release 40-inch units either by the end of 2013 or at the beginning of 2014 that will be used both in TV and monitor applications.”

Taiwan panel makers previously had advantages in the market due to their success with 39-inch Full HD panels in China, but now other manufacturers will be competing with both 40-inch Full HD and Ultra HD panels.

“Innolux in response is set to first produce its own 40-inch equivalent Full HD LCD display sized 39.5-inch in October and will later start mass producing Ultra HD units of the same size later in 2013 or possibly as late as the first half of 2014.”

Meanwhile, Sharp and Samsung are expected to ship high volumes of 40-inch Ultra HD panels for sales toward the end of the year.
