Sony’s New 4K Projectors

Sony has just announced three new SXRD projectors at CEDIA 2013 in Denver, Colorado — two of which are 4K, with the third being Full HD. The VPL-VW1100ES and VPL-VW600ES models both feature a DCI-approved 4096×2160 pixel count (Digital Cinema Initiative).

Sony VPL-VW1100ES 4K Digital Cinema Projector

The VPL-VW1100ES is Sony’s top end projector, which includes the Sony 4K Media Player (FMP-X1), and will be available this October for $28,000. The Sony 4K Media Player allows users to access, download, store and play back 4K content from the Sony Video Unlimited 4K service.

The VPL-VW1100ES also features 2,000 ANSI-lumens of brightness, which makes it suitable for screen sizes up to 200-inches. The projector also achieves a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast. Other features include dual triggers, 2.1x motorized zoom, expanded lens shift, RS232 interface, control over IP, and compatibility with leading home automation systems.

This high end projector also integrates the latest HDMI standard to support 4K/60p playback. Furthermore, the VPL-VW1100ES has an exclusive upscaling algorithm designed for “Mastered in 4K” Blu-ray discs from Sony Picture Entertainment, which enable the viewer to enjoy more accurate 4K picture quality from HD content delivered on Blu-ray discs.

Sony VPL-VW600ES 4K Digital Cinema Projector

The Sony VPL-VW600ES, like the VPL-VW1100ES, also offers DCI-approved 4096×2160 resolution. This unit features 1,700 ANSI-lumens of brightness and a 200,000:1 contrast ratio. The projector also features the latest HDMI standard for 4K/60p playback. The unit features a compact, installation-friendly design, allowing for placement versatility. Other features include front-exhaust, 2.06x powered zoom, and a wide lens shift range. Available in November for $15,000.

Sony VPL-HW55ES HD 3D Home Projector

This Full HD projector features 1,700 ANSI-lumens of brightness and 120,000:1 dynamic contrast. The VPL-HW55ES model will be available in the U.S. starting in October for $4,000.
